- Contrast against foil and colour. Metallic cans, dark glass, and coloured labels all reduce reliable contrast — test the actual printed label under real lighting, not just a screen mockup, before a full run.
- Don't go too small. Labels are compact, but a code shrunk too far to fit becomes unreliable — decide early how much of the label the code genuinely needs rather than squeezing it in as an afterthought.
- Keep the quiet zone clear of texture. Embossed logos, foil borders, or busy label art crowding the code's edges are a common reason a label code fails to scan on the first attempt.
